BRICK
What was your exercise regime before CrossFit?

Over the last twenty years I took up many different exercise programs.  Sport specific, martial arts, calisthenics, various gym memberships and at home programs off the computer and books from Barnes and Nobles.  Things would peak my interest in the beginning but would always grow old.  The pattern would be that I would fall away from fitness for a while and then come back to it with a new program to try.  Then just like many other cross fitter's stories, I tried Crossfit, haven't lost interest and haven't look back since.

How many WODs per week do you attend?

My goal is to attend 5 a week, but depending on life outside the box, averaging three a week.  I stick with the Golden Phoenix program outside the box as well, so when I do go to class, I am still able to keep the momentum of progress.

Favorite CrossFit exercise?
I am a tree climber, so rope climbs are a given!  There is something about power cleans that are awesome, and burpees.

Least favorite exercise?

Overhead squats.  I am not good at them, so naturally I don't like them.  I will work on them though!

What would you tell a newbie getting started that helped you?

There is so much to learn and do.  Some things will be your strengths and some things will be your weaknesses.  Work on them both.  Do not compete with others, compete with yourself.  HAVE FUN!  Crossfit will enhance your life in all areas, and to keep that goodness flowing, having fun is key to continually making progress. Last thing, bad days are building blocks for awesome days!

What would you like to accomplish in the next 3 months?

10 consecutive muscle ups on rings, 215 Clean and Jerk, 285 Back Squat.  Perfecting snatch technique.

What is a fun fact about you?

I was born profoundly deaf in both ears.  I wear a cochlear implant for the most part.  I don't wear it during WOD times, and use lip reading to communicate with everyone until after WOD time.

What was your exercise regime before CrossFit?

Yoga and running. I used some free weights and machines at the gym, but that was the extent of my "lifting."

How many WODs per week do you attend?

Usually between 3 and 5.

Favorite CrossFit exercise?

Cleans and jerks.

Least favorite exercise?

Overhead squats.

What would you tell a newbie getting started that helped you?

Starting anything is difficult. Everyone's journey starts at different times and it doesn't mean one person is better than another. In the beginning, I really struggled with comparing myself to the more advanced athletes and after progressing myself, it became more and more obvious that everyone has to start somewhere. They started the same way I started: at the beginning. It's not the norm to just walk into a gym and immediately master every movement. It takes time and commitment, and if you're committed, you WILL see results. And it's extremely fun. Don't forget to enjoy yourself!

What would you like to accomplish in the next 3 months?

Handstand push ups, becoming less afraid of being upside down in general. And more consistent pistols/double unders.

What is a fun fact about you?

I set all my alarms to odd-numbered times. (8:37am6:51am, etc.) And the volume on the tv/radio and microwave times. Always odd numbers!
